Internet Website Marketing – Get Your Mind Right First

Online business owners market websites and products on the Internet for exactly the same reasons Main Street business owners market their stores and products.

We do it to make money …

… so we can buy groceries, educate the kids, keep the utilities turned on at the house, and have a little fun and a few creature comforts along the way.

Nothing wrong with that – duh.

Wikipedia (March 2010) says:  ”Marketing is the process by which companies determine what products or services may be of interest to customers, and the strategy to use in sales, communications and business development. It is an integrated process through which companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers in return.”

So with that said, the customer is obviously the the key to the whole process. Getting and keeping customers is what “marketing” is all about.

That’s the nutshell version – but it’s a powerful concept.

Well planned and well executed business marketing on Main Street will result in customers and potential customers who visit a certain shop, look at products, buy, and periodically repeat that process.

Well planned and well executed  Internet website marketing will produce exactly the same results – except (do I really need to say this?) the “shop” is a website.

All Internet marketing beginners need to understand that concept.

They must understand that while there are casinos on the Internet ….

The Internet itself IS NOT A CASINO (sorry if that bit of truth kills anyone’s hope for a big win by next Thursday.)

Nope – the Internet is just another marketplace.

People who approach the Internet marketplace as a marketplace, looking to build a business for the long term … they  can and frequently do become financially successful.

People who try to play it like a casino, just looking for a big win …. they usually walk away frustrated and broke.

Here we’ll talk about the time-proven processes of:

  • locating customers and potential customers
  • getting them in to visit our shop/website
  • selling them what they want and need without screwing them
  • and making it easy for them to come back and do more of the same.

That’s what Internet website marketing is all about … the customer.
